Runaway Spino the Dino takes to the computer screen

Hothouse today announces that it has won the exclusive right to develop Runaway Spino, a viral marketing application for the launch of Jurassic Park III, courtesy of Havas Interactive, USA.

Hothouse, Australia’s leading web consulting, development and marketing agency survived the tech wreck to become one of the few web development success stories in Australia. Hothouse has grown from 0 to $6million in 5 years and has learnt to capitalise on its key growth and profit areas, thus succeeding where others have failed.

This latest venture shows that by being creative, companies in Australia can actually cream off business from the States by coming in cheaper and faster than their American counterparts.

This animation will be distributed over the internet via email and has therefore been built in C++ to ensure a small file size, and all the functionality required. For the lead up to the launch of the new motion picture, Jurassic Park III, an interactive Spinosaurus will live on your desktop, even as you work in other applications. He will sleep, hunt, and generally show off his prehistoric attitude. The user has the opportunity to stun him, xray him or arrange for his capture by net, among other things. The application provides a clever way to market the film and its products. In this case, the Spino, in the course of its actions, leads you to the website of a game product called Scan-Command. Among other things, future applications of this technology could include product reminders, educational messages or public service announcements.

Simon Van Wyk, Managing Director of Hothouse, said, “Due to the current dollar exchange there are huge opportunities for us to conduct work for US companies. Runaway Spino has been great fun to work on and we look forward to its success and hope that all over Australia Spino will be popping up on computer screens to ultimately boost sales for the product.
