Case studies in marketing
By Simon van Wyk
Following on with this month’s theme of the legends of marketing, let’s focus on case studies in all types of marketing, not just digital marketing. Here are some websites where you can find some really useful examples to apply to your own business:
Marketing Magazine case studies: This Australian publication has dozens of case studies to choose from. My favourites include Cabana Boys, a creative agency born during the depths of the GFC, the ANZ Bank’s sponsorship of the Broadway musical Wicked, Australia’s quintessential sandshoe, Dunlop Volleys, and the Transport Action Commission of Victoria’s “Pictures of You” campaign.
Business case studies from the Financial Review: Aimed at marketing students, these localised case studies cover topics including Australia Post’s enduring power of paper campaign, Telstra’s market-based management initiative, minimising the beef industry’s impact on climate change, and how Coca-Cola changed tastes from cola to water
Fast Company marketing case studies: As they say on their site, “Innovative and creative marketing is more important than even in a shaky economic climate. Here’s some of the best strategies we’ve found for quickly moving your brand from intriguing concept to household name.” Companies in these case studies include Guinness, Proctor & Gamble, Chrysler, Toyota and Mercedes-Benz.
Video marketing case studies from Search Engine Watch: David Meerman Scott, author of The New Rules of Marketing & PR and Greg Jarboe, author of YouTube and Video Marketing: An Hour a Day analyse the top video marketing efforts. Good for the more visually inclined.
Case studies in word of mouth marketing from the Word of Mouth Marketing Association (WOMMA): Scores of examples of the different types of word of mouth marketing that exist, and ways to put them into action.
