NSW Department of Education and Training
HotHouse was engaged by the NSW Department of Education and Training (DET) to conduct user testing of an online application developed by DET. The aims of the project were to test the usability (ease of use) of the various user interfaces of the application and key user scenarios for the different user types based on the user testing and expert reviews, identify and recommend usability improvements and enhancements to the user interfaces effect knowledge transfer to DET personnel to enable the internal to carry out future user testing activities independent of external consultants.
HotHouse led the project and facilitated DET personnel’s collaboration in all activities, which included:
- Defining user profiles to guide the recruitment of test users, ensuring that all user types were represented in the test.
- Development of test instruments (testing scripts and prompt sheets, user questionnaires, results-capture forms, equipment set up and configuration, etc).
- One-on-one user testing of user interfaces in paper prototype form and functional (HTML) prototype.
- Findings and recommendations delivered in a report (including interactive wireframes) and in a presentation to the wider DET project team.
